Peachy Keen!

Pairing the words “peach” and “summer” likely makes you imagine biting into sweet juicy fruit at a family cookout. We are excited to introduce you to two new varieties of shrubs that are sure to bring interest to your summer landscape while celebrating the color peach.

Abelia ‘Peach Perfection’ features remarkably colorful foliage. New leaves emerge bright orange turning to yellow and green tones, providing the peach moniker. A compact grower reaching 3-4’ high and 2-3’ wide, this easy care shrub is topped by star shaped white blooms in summer. Pollinators are attracted to the flowers, while remaining undisturbed by hungry deer. Abelia are semi-evergreen. We find friends gardening in milder areas such as Mercer Island or near Lake Sammamish will often find the foliage remains attractive through winter. In the foothills most of the leaves will fall, especially if we have a cold winter or the plant is not protected near the house. This does not cause any stress to the plant, it merely changes its appearance. Abelia thrive in full sun or partial sun conditions.

Weigela ‘All Summer Peach’ is an outstanding new addition to the many varieties of weigela. These deciduous shrubs traditionally feature trumpet shaped blooms in spring. ‘All Summer Peach” lives up to its billing as the blooms remarkably repeat all summer long! The bloom tones of soft peach are also quite unique for a weigela. Maintaining a compact habit, this easy care shrub reaches 28-32” in height, making it a great addition to the front of a landscape border. Place weigela in full or partial sun locations to insure you get to enjoy their festive blooms each year.

We invite you to come wander the scenic pathways at Squak Mt. soon to discover new desirable varieties of shrubs for your garden.
