Create dramatic contrast in your garden with the addition of deep purple leaves featuring a luminescent sheen. Introducing Loropetalum ‘Plum Gorgeous’ an eye-catching shrub that also boasts blooms in both spring and late summer, bringing color to your garden in multiple seasons. Loropetalum, commonly known as Chinese fringe flower, is a hardy semi- evergreen shrub with a low, mounding growth habit.
We use the term semi-evergreen to describe plants that may lose all their leaves in colder winter conditions, while retaining nearly all their leaves in milder spots. From our experience loropetalum should be considered deciduous on most of the Eastside, including Issaquah and the foothills. Folks living closer to the Puget Sound may find these same plants to be largely evergreen if we have a mild winter. ‘Plum Gorgeous’ seems to be more resilient to cold winters, and we believe it will start leafing out faster in spring than many other varieties of loropetalum.
Planting ‘Plum Gorgeous’ in your landscape’s border, will provide wonderful contrast amid the brighter greens of your landscape. The deep pink tassel flowers appear first in spring and then intermittently in summer. In addition to enjoying the rich bloom colors, you will also enjoy visits from butterflies, and hummingbirds to the nectar rich flowers. For best results, plant loropetalum in full day or afternoon sun. This easy to grow shrub is also drought and heat tolerant, and avoided by deer.
