How can a plant capture attention, when every conceivable color has already been introduced and enjoyed by gardeners? This perplexing riddle has been solved by the plant smiths at Terra Nova Nursery in Oregon. For decades they have been renowned in introducing new varieties of Heuchera, to the delight of gardeners worldwide. Also called coral bells, these evergreen perennials bring scalloped shaped leaves in colors ranging from indigo purple to bright lime as well as every tone of red, orange and green you can imagine.
Now you can re-imagine your Heuchera collection with the all new ‘Fyre Wing’ series. These plants feature the very first lace leaf Heucheras! A chance mutation was spotted at the farm, which prompted many years of breeding in order to bring these varieties to you.
Each leaf is deeply cut bringing a wonderful and whimsical new texture to garden beds and containers. The whimsical nature has been noted by our friends at Terra Nova, and they have dubbed the plants ‘Fyre Wing’, a nod to the world of dragons in fantasy literature.
You will discover varieties such as ‘Jet’, and ‘Heliodor’. ‘Jet’ radiates a subtle sophistication with black
foliage covered by silky, silver hairs. Young foliage on ‘Heliodor’ emerges with an orange tinge but as soon as the foliage matures, the fresh squeezed lime color shines through.
As with other Heuchera, green and yellow leaf varieties prefer protection from afternoon sun, while red, purple, and black leaf varieties can tolerate full sun. All varieties will thrive in part sun.
