New! ‘Cascade Jewel’

White bell flowers maturing to deep blue berries have long been an attraction for wildlife and gardeners on a favorite native shrub, evergreen huckleberry. We are pleased to introduce a brand new cultivar ‘Cascade Jewel’ that has been developed at OSU in Corvallis.

‘Cascade Jewel’ features deep red leaves on its new growth, maturing to rich green. The stems are thicker and more rigid giving the plant a more upright and structured appearance. You will find that ‘Cascade Jewel’, while having excellent vigor, requires less pruning due to its tidier habit, maturing at 3’ H x 3’ W.

Evergreen huckleberries (Vaccinium ovatum) are an excellent nectar source for pollinators and nutrition source for birds (and people!). ‘Cascade Jewel’ is a welcome addition to our shrub palette, as gardeners search for new ways to integrate native plants into their landscape in an attractive manner. This cultivar’s compact habit can easily be incorporated into mixed borders or planted in mass.

Evergreen huckleberry can thrive in sun or shade, but direct sunlight encourages more flowers and fruit. Deer resistant and drought tolerant once established, you will find that ‘Cascade Jewel’ quickly becomes a beloved addition to your landscape.
